Principal Robert Gross has over 19 years of public accounting experience dealing extensively with non-profit organizations. In addition, he has over 23 years of practical experience in business management, negotiation, and finance specializing in fraud prevention. His expertise includes corporations and partnerships, non-profit and governmental organizations, pension plans, and real estate development organizations. Robert is SGLA's audit manager and consults businesses and non-profit organizations on accounting system analysis and internal control procedures. Prior to working with Schwartz, Giannini, Lantsberger & Adamson, Robert worked as a general partner of two successful retail businesses in the Bay Area overseeing all operational aspects of the organizations. Robert received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Accounting from California State University , Hayward and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants. In 2005, Rob earned the distinction of becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner and is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. c
Niko Torres, CPA A lifelong resident of Stockton, Niko Torres joined in 2013 and became a California licensed CPA in 2015, and is currently a Principal at Schwartz, Giannini, Lantsberger & Adamson. Prior to joining SGLA, Niko gained tax experience from working at a local firm. Niko provides tax preparation and planning services to individuals, trusts, partnerships, and S-corporations. Niko also provides auditing and accounting services to nonprofits, pension plans, governmental organizations, common interest realty associations, and affordable housing projects. Niko earned his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accountancy from California State University – Sacramento. Niko is a member of CalCPA and AICPA as well as a member of the Board of Directors for the Stockton Symphony. When not in the office, Niko enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, cycling, and playing guitar. c Carol J Watkins CPA, MSBA/TAX Senior Manager Carol J Watkins, CPA, MSBA/TAX has over 35 years of accounting experience in all areas of public accounting. However her emphasis and expertise is in taxation. She specializes in a wide variety of tax clients including individuals, corporations, S corporations, partnerships, trusts, estates and non-profit organizations. Right out of college Carol spent her first two years in accounting with a national firm. Just before joining the team at Schwartz, Giannini, Lantsberger & Adamson as senior manager Carol was a principal at Heather, Sanguinetti, Caminata & Sakai, Inc. HSCS was acquired by SGLA on January 1, 2019. Carol received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of the Pacific and her Master of Science in Business Administration in Taxation from California State University, Sacramento. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. c Michael Shimizu, CPA Michael has over 20 years of accounting experience with a variety of industries. Public accounting experience includes audits and taxation of small businesses, personal income tax preparation, audits and accounting for nonprofit organizations, and audits of employee benefit plans. Michael previously worked with a local CPA firm in Sacramento and obtained his CPA license in 2001. Michael received his Bachelors of Science degree in Business/Accounting from CSU Chico. He was born and raised in the Sacramento Valley, a member of the CalCPA society, AICPA, and volunteer with his church. c Carol Sherman, CPA Carol has worked in the accounting profession since 1997, when she was hired by Heather, Sanguinetti, Caminata & Sakai, Inc. She earned her CPA license in 2001. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of areas: financial statement preparation, court accounting, auditing, and taxation. Most of her time is devoted to individual tax preparation. Carol was born and raised in Stockton and attended Lincoln High School. After one year at San Joaquin Delta College, she transferred to Concordia University in Irvine, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration-Accounting in 1996. Between graduation and her employment at HSCS, she gained accounting experience at several temporary jobs in the Stockton area. She is a member of California Society of Certified Public Accountants. An avid reader, Carol also writes fiction and has published three novels. When she’s not reading, writing, or doing accounting work, she spends time with her husband and two sons and volunteers at her church. c Julie Parenti
Manager Julie Parenti is a manager who has been with the firm since January 1999. Julie has over twenty-five years of accounting experience in private and public accounting and has specialized in non-profit since 1999. Julie also provides contract Controller/CFO type accounting services to several non-profit clients of the firm. Julie is a member of the audit team for auditing engagements for non-profit and real estate clients of the firm. Prior to working with Schwartz, Giannini, Lantsberger & Adamson, Julie was the Director of Finance of St. Joseph's Medical Resources, Inc. in Stockton , California . She was responsible for the preparation and presentation of financial statements to the Board of Directors. She supervised the management of the accounting system for three medical groups and five IPAs. She developed the Finance Department objectives and internal controls, along with the Policies and Procedures Manual. c
